Signs Your Oldcastle Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here. A homeowner can check whether a rocking paver sits on a void by sounding it with a rubber mallet - a hollow ring means the bedding sand is gone. You can also verify drainage slope with a 4-foot level and a shim; water should run away from the garage at 1/8″ per foot minimum. But once you’re lifting pavers, the work goes wrong fast. The base layer must be recompacted in 6″ lifts with a plate compactor rated for the soil type; hand-tamping won’t achieve the 95% density that prevents future settlement. And if your driveway butts up against a garage slab or foundation, improper grading can direct water toward the structure.
