Quikrete Kitchen Remodeling: The Pomona Owner’s Guide

Quikrete kitchen remodeling in Pomona typically runs $14,000-$45,000 for a full project, with smaller kitchen updates starting at $9,000. We stock Quikrete-compatible concrete mixes, countertop substrates, and underlayment products, and we can usually get specialty items from our Pomona-area suppliers within a day. Most homeowners realize their Quikrete-based installation needs attention when countertops crack above a poorly cured substrate, island footings settle unevenly, or backsplash mortar beds start powdering out behind the tile.

Which Quikrete Products This Applies To

Quikrete makes more than fast-setting concrete. For kitchen remodeling in Pomona, we regularly specify four product families: Quikrete 5000 for island and peninsula footings (compressive strength of 5,000 psi at 28 days, which matters when you’re hanging granite or quartz on a cantilevered counter), Quikrete Countertop Mix for cast-in-place or precast concrete countertops (the polymer-modified version resists hairline cracking better than standard bag mixes), Quikrete Sand/Topping Mix for mortar beds under tile backsplashes and floors, and Quikrete Self-Leveling Floor Resurfacer for correcting out-of-level subfloors before cabinet installation.

The compatibility gotcha: Quikrete Countertop Mix in the standard gray formula is not interchangeable with the Quikrete Commercial Grade Countertop Mix, which uses a different aggregate gradation and higher Portland cement content. We’ve seen Pomona homeowners order the wrong bag, mix to the same water ratio, and end up with a surface that cures too fast in our inland heat and spider-cracks within weeks. The label on the bag will read “Commercial Grade” in the upper right corner if that’s what you’ve got. We source the standard Countertop Mix through our Pomona building supply relationships; the Commercial Grade version typically requires a special order with a three-day lead time.

OEM Quikrete versus aftermarket equivalents: for footings and structural pads, we use Quikrete 5000 because the psi rating is printed on every bag and every inspector in Los Angeles County recognizes it. For mortar beds, Spec Mix or Custom Building Products’ equivalent formulations perform identically at a lower per-bag cost, and we pass that difference through in the written quote. We don’t upsell brand names where the spec is the spec.

Signs Your Quikrete Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your Quikrete Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
  • Cracks radiating from sink or cooktop cutouts in concrete countertops. These usually trace back to insufficient reinforcement - Quikrete Countertop Mix needs fiberglass or wire mesh placed at mid-depth, and we’ve found mesh omitted in DIY pours around Pomona. The crack widens as the slab flexes under daily use.
  • Island or peninsula settling or tilting, with cabinet doors swinging open on their own. The footing below was likely poured too shallow or on uncompacted soil. Quikrete 5000 cures strong, but it can’t bridge a void. In Pomona’s clay-heavy soils near the foothills, we always recommend a 12-inch minimum depth with compacted aggregate base.
  • Tile backsplash detaching in sheets, with sandy mortar crumbling behind it. Quikrete Sand/Topping Mix mixed too wet or applied over a painted drywall surface without scarifying first. The bond fails in shear; the tile comes off clean because the mortar never grabbed the wall.
  • Soft, powdery spots in a concrete countertop surface that stain easily. This is incomplete hydration - usually from too much water added at the mix stage, or from Pomona’s dry Santa Ana wind conditions pulling moisture out of the surface too fast during cure. The concrete never reaches design strength in those spots.
  • Floor-level cabinets rocking after tile or LVP installation. The subfloor wasn’t brought to flat before cabinets went in. Quikrete Self-Leveling Resurfacer fixes this, but it has to go down before base cabinets are set, not after. We’ve been called in twice in the Phillips Ranch area to fix this sequencing error.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what kitchen remodeling with Quikrete products costs in Pomona, with every line item written out before work starts:

Service Price Range
Full Kitchen Remodel $14,000-$45,000
Small Kitchen Remodel $9,000-$20,000
Countertop Installation (including Quikrete substrate prep) $2,000-$6,500
Backsplash Installation (including Quikrete mortar bed) $800-$2,500
Kitchen Island Installation (including Quikrete 5000 footing) $3,000-$10,000

What drives the range: square footage, whether we’re removing existing substrate or building new, and the finish level of the countertop material above the Quikrete base. A Quikrete Countertop Mix pour with acid stain and sealer sits at the lower end; the same slab with embedded glass aggregate and epoxy finish pushes toward the upper range. Every quote includes the Quikrete product specified by bag count, the labor to mix, pour, finish, and cure per manufacturer instructions, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise backed by The Haven Standard. Under Clause 1, the price is written before anyone starts. No change proceeds without a signed change order, which is why our projects finish within a few percent of the number you agreed to.

There’s a safe middle ground here. A homeowner can verify the product label, check the bag date (Quikrete has a six-month shelf life in dry storage; we’ve seen old stock from Pomona-area discount suppliers that never reached design strength), and confirm the subfloor or soil condition looks reasonable. What goes wrong fast: mixing Quikrete Countertop Mix by hand in a wheelbarrow instead of a forced-action mixer, which leaves dry pockets that become weak points; pouring footings without rebar in seismic zone D, which Pomona is; and skimping on cure time - Quikrete 5000 hits 1,500 psi in 24 hours, but you don’t load it for seven days minimum.

Concrete work is permanent work. Once it’s cured, your only fix is demolition. Call (626) 606-1081 and we’ll schedule a free estimate with a written price before any work starts.
