Ameristar Driveway & Pavers: The Pomona Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Ameristar-compatible driveway and paver components in Pomona, with most replacements running $5,000-$14,000 for full driveway replacement and $250-$700 for sealing work, depending on square footage and substrate condition. Most Ameristar paver and driveway jobs in Pomona are quoted and started within 48 hours. Homeowners usually discover the problem after seasonal rains - water pooling where it didn’t before, pavers shifting along the edge near the garage, or hairline cracks spreading from the expansion joints toward the street.

Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar’s driveway and paver line includes several series that were distributed through regional suppliers across Southern California between roughly 2012 and 2021. The most common in Pomona are the Ameristar Classic series (concrete pavers, 60mm and 80mm thicknesses) and the Ameristar Pro-Edge line (permeable pavers with interlocking spacer lugs). To identify your exact series, check the paver edge for a molded “AM” stamp or a small lot number sticker on the pallet wrapping if you have leftover inventory. The Classic 60mm measures roughly 4 inches by 8 inches by 2.36 inches; the 80mm runs 3.15 inches thick and was spec’d for light commercial or heavy residential driveways.

Here’s where owners get tripped up: Ameristar used two different edge restraint profiles. The pre-2018 Classic series accepts standard L-shaped aluminum edging with 3/8-inch stake holes. Post-2018 production switched to a thicker 1/2-inch stake spacing. Order the wrong edging and you’ll be back at the supplier mid-job. We carry both profiles on our Pomona trucks.

For OEM versus aftermarket: Ameristar’s original pavers were manufactured by a now-dissolved subsidiary, so true OEM stock is limited to regional distributor closeouts. We source from the same California-based foundries that supplied Ameristar’s molds - Techo-Bloc and Belgard equivalents match the color blends and compressive strength (8,500 PSI minimum for vehicular load) at roughly 15-20 percent below discontinued OEM pricing.

Signs Your Ameristar Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your Ameristar Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Pavers rocking under tire weight. The bedding sand has washed out from beneath, usually from failed edge restraint or inadequate initial compaction. In Pomona, this accelerates where downspouts discharge directly onto the driveway apron.
  • Weeds growing through joints that were previously tight. Polymeric sand has degraded or was never properly installed. The gap allows water penetration, which freezes and expands at the substrate level during our occasional cold snaps near the foothills.
  • Surface spalling or flaking on the paver face. De-icing salts or fertilizer runoff have attacked the cement paste. Ameristar’s Classic series used a standard Portland cement blend without the silica fume additive that higher-end pavers include for chemical resistance.
  • Visible settlement near the garage slab or sidewalk. The aggregate base was insufficiently compacted - we regularly find 4-inch bases where 6 inches of crushed Class II aggregate was specified. Pomona’s clay-heavy soils in the Phillips Ranch area make this worse.
  • Efflorescence blooming as white powder across the surface. Soluble salts migrating through the paver body. It’s cosmetic, not structural, but indicates moisture is moving freely through the assembly rather than draining as designed.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range in Pomona What’s Included
Driveway sealing (standard) $250-$700 Pressure wash, joint sand recharge, acrylic sealer application
Partial paver replacement (localized failure) $1,500-$4,500 Excavation, base repair, new pavers, compaction, sealing
Full driveway replacement $5,000-$14,000 Removal, 6-inch aggregate base, bedding sand, pavers, edge restraint, compaction, initial seal
Paver patio installation (new) $3,500-$11,000 Full assembly with drainage plan and permeable base where required

The spread in full replacement pricing comes down to three things: square footage, whether we need to remove and replace existing concrete borders, and soil conditions. Near the Pomona Fairplex corridor, we’ve hit old fill that required 8 inches of base rather than 6. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that number is written into the quote before we cut the first paver - no surprises, no change orders without your signature.

Every driveway job carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the surface settles, joints open, or sealer fails prematurely, we make it right. The warranty terms are printed, not implied.

There’s honest work a homeowner can do: pull a few pavers to check bedding sand depth, verify edge restraint stake spacing with a tape measure, or apply sealer with a pump sprayer if the surface is clean and dry. Measure twice, then we can talk.

Where DIY goes wrong is base preparation and compaction. A plate compactor rental runs $80 per day, but without a moisture-density test, you’re guessing. We’ve been called to Pomona jobs where the homeowner installed 2 inches of sand over undisturbed soil - the pavers looked fine for three months, then the rainy season hit and the whole field shifted. Re-doing a failed DIY base costs more than doing it once correctly because you’re paying for removal of your own work plus the original scope.
