Which Jerith Models This Applies To

Jerith’s residential line breaks into three series that matter for Pomona additions and ADUs: the Classic, the Deluxe, and the Style-Crest. The Classic uses 5/8-inch square aluminum pickets with a .050 wall thickness; the Deluxe steps up to 3/4-inch with a .062 wall and a heavier cast-aluminum collar at each rail intersection. Style-Crest adds the pressed-spear top and a wider 1-inch rail. The model stamp is embossed on the inside face of the bottom rail, usually near the post bracket, and it’ll read something like “CL-48-BK” for a 48-inch Classic in black.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see most in Pomona: Jerith changed its bracket spacing in 2019. Pre-2019 posts use a 2-inch on-center bracket slot; post-2019 moved to 2.5 inches. A new rail won’t seat in an old post without an adapter plate, and Jerith doesn’t sell the adapter separately. We fabricate them in-shop from 6061-T6 plate when needed. For OEM versus aftermarket, Jerith’s powder coat is a TGIC polyester that cures at 400 degrees; most aftermarket rails match the color decently but the gloss level’s off by 10-15 units, which you notice in direct Pomona afternoon sun. We source OEM for anything visible at less than 20 feet, and use quality aftermarket from Jerith’s own secondary supplier for rear-yard or utility areas where the match doesn’t carry.

Signs Your Jerith Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

• Gate sag that won’t correct with hinge adjustment. The aluminum frame has twisted at a miter joint, usually from a vehicle bump or from Pomona’s clay-heavy soil settling unevenly after winter rains. The mortise-and-tenon joint in the corner casting loosens, and no amount of hinge tightening pulls it square.
• White corrosion blooming at rail-to-post brackets. This is galvanic corrosion between the aluminum rail and the stainless steel bracket screw. Pomona’s irrigation-heavy neighborhoods, especially near the Puddingstone Reservoir watershed, accelerate it. The rail wall thins from the inside out.
• Picket wobble or pull-through at the rail. The nylon grommet that centers each picket has UV-degraded. Jerith uses a UV-stabilized nylon 6/6, but after 12-14 years in CA sun it chalks and cracks. The picket then rattles and can pull through under lateral load.
• Post lean exceeding 2 inches at the top. The concrete footing has failed, or the post was set in a sleeve that filled with water and froze in a cold Pomona winter. Jerith posts are hollow extrusion; once the footing goes, the post acts as a lever.
• Color shift or chalking on south-facing runs. AAMA 2604 powder coat is rated for 10 years; 2605 for 20. Jerith uses 2604 on Classic, 2605 on Deluxe and Style-Crest. If your south-facing Classic has gone chalky at year 8, that’s actually on spec. The issue is that it makes the addition look older than the house.

The range depends on three things: whether we’re matching existing or replacing a whole run, whether the footing needs re-pouring (Pomona’s expansive clay in the Ganesha Hills area almost always does), and whether the original color is still in Jerith’s active stock. DIY or Call Us?

There’s a short list an owner can safely check: verify the model stamp on the bottom rail, measure the exact panel width post-to-post (inside face), and photograph the bracket type where the rail meets the post. That information lets us pre-order the right part and show up with it.

Where DIY goes wrong is almost always the post footing. Jerith’s installation manual calls for a 30-inch depth in frost-susceptible soils, which includes most of Pomona north of the 10 freeway. Homeowners who skip the depth, or who pour a dry-pack mix that doesn’t bond to the clay, end up with a post that leans again in two seasons. Gate alignment is the other trap: a 1/4-inch error at the hinge translates to a 2-inch gap at the latch, and the magnetic Jerith latches won’t engage. We’re not going to tell you it’s rocket science.
